The Student Success Through OER Rubric Grant ProgramVertical Divider
|
What role can OER play in advancing student success?
The Student Success Through OER Rubric Grant Program encourages grantees to use the Student Success Through OER rubric in full, or parts of the rubric, to self-assess their current state of OER practice at their institution or system. |
Generative AI and OER: Policy and PracticeVertical Divider
|
How can open education guide the responsible and equitable use of generative AI in teaching and learning?
The Generative AI and OER project explores how institutions can adopt AI in ways that align with open education values—equity, transparency, and student agency. Through community consultations and collaborative research, DOERS has released Policy Priorities for Generative AI and Open Education: A Report for the DOERS Community, which highlights how educators and policymakers can center pedagogy, not technology, when developing AI strategies. |
National Recommendation: Tiered Course Designations for OER ResearchVertical Divider
|
How can we improve the quality and consistency of research related to Open Educational Resources (OER)?
The national recommendation for tiered course designations establishes a standardized framework to help researchers compare how institutions mark courses based on material costs, providing a clearer foundation for cross-institutional analysis. |
Tenure and Promotion Matrix and Case StudiesVertical Divider
|
How can OER contributions be a part of a successful academic career path?
We have developed a framework, the OER Contributions Matrix, that can help institutions and disciplines consider how to reward OER work and a set of case studies detailing how faculty, librarians, administrators, and staff have used their work in open education for tenure, promotion, and reappointment. |
OER and Workforce DevelopmentVertical Divider
|
How can open education strengthen workforce readiness and equitable access to skills?
The OER and Workforce Development project investigates how openly licensed resources can align educational programs with workforce needs. In partnership with ClearKinetic and the Rebus Foundation, DOERS is developing tools and playbooks to help institutions, employers, and instructional designers collaborate more effectively. The initiative includes the “OER + Workforce Collaboration System,” piloted at OpenEd 2025, and an openly licensed Workforce + OER Playbook designed to capture real- world examples of how open education supports career pathways. |
Open Education Research Case StudiesVertical Divider
|
How do scholars, practitioners and administrators enact research about open education?
A crucial part of sustaining OER and open educational practices in higher education is communicating whether, in what ways, and to what extent open educational practices impact student success. By collecting case studies from those who have experience, DOERS seeks to provide as many examples from as many types of institutions as possible so that those looking for ways to align their research methodologies and language with others in the field can find solutions that speak to their particular questions.

Improving Listing and Fulfillment in Campus StoresVertical Divider
|
How can we better help students find OER assigned for their courses? We have developed a best practices guide for institutions, faculty, campus stores, and bookstore software providers to improve OER listing and print fulfillment. |
